Throwback Thursday; Italy, 1997

#ThrowbackThursday is another Nolan’s spin with Dad in his 1838. This time Italy. We had run up from Genoa loaded but the poor little Merc had a fuel filters problem so got progressively slower and slower, which on the road up from Genoa is exceedingly slow! We had to keep stopping so Dad could clean the filters as he was doing here just before Mont Blanc tunnel. Dad had a very different career path to me, he was a mechanic for first 20+ years of his career, and a bloody good one so he could always get trucks home. I was an apprentice mechanic for a couple of years at the start but my heart wasn’t in it. Sam my brother is a mechanic and also a brilliant one, seems the cleverness skipped me 😂 As I always say to people don’t get too stressed when stuff goes wrong, because things going wrong make the best stories to look back on! And I’ve had a lot of days when stuff went very very wrong. But no one remembers those days that all went to plan! Dad always says that Nolan Transport was best...

Our Facebook Page

Hullo chums. You may start to notice me being absent from Facebook. I made a joke about being gay……I am one after all, and they lumbered me with a frankly insane 29 day ban. What really takes the piss is someone posting homophobic comments remains unbanned and his comments live. I’ve reported no end of truly awful racist, homophobic and hateful content on there and so far I’ve had one taken down. Make a joke however and many of us get ban after ban after ban. 29 days means that’s likely the end of my time on Facebook. I already found it a often depressing place but stayed because of 33k likes but I’ll have to learn to do without for a month which means I’ll likely not come back. FUCK YOU FACEBOOK! Meta, the daft new name for Facebook, reported its first ever drop in engagement numbers and its exactly because of shit like this, they are driving people away constantly. I’ll still be online, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram (until owners Facebook ban me), LinkedIn etc. So come find me at one o...

Whites Transport Services A Post From Pete

Hi all, This is Pete from Whites Transport.   Messaging via Luke.  Some of you are aware, some maybe not, my FB page was disabled last night. I've spent over 10 years building the page up to what is was. A lot of effort has been put into it. So much effort in fact. Keeping everyone up to date with where we go, what we do & how we do it. Sometimes I sailed close to the wind with the content I posted but I genuinely posted what I thought people would find interesting. The good, the bad & the ugly if you like, I showed you all our achievements and our failings. Yes occasionally people got upset but they were sort of people that themselves looks for upset in everything. It was all just typical transport industry humour, ‘banter’ if you like, our intentions were only ever good, we set out to make people laugh, not cry. Make friends not enemies. To say I'm gutted is an understatement, I had no warning this was coming, I was just logged out & a message to say my account w...

FACEBOOK BULLSHIT

Blindsided by some mind blowing arrogance from Facebook this evening it led to me frankly popping this video out in the fastest time ever. They have shut the incredibly popular Whites Transport Services Facebook page down with no explanation and no right to appeal. This is disgusting behaviour by Facebook, could be seriously commercially damaging yet they don’t seem to want to listen. So if anyone has any advice please let us know.

Truckstop Review: Avon Lodge, Avonmouth

Hello friends. Here be the first of an occasional series of Truckstop reviews, because sometimes you can’t be arsed cooking! Let me know what you think, if it’s any good etc and and suggestions, truckstops, cafes or even snack vans. The plan is to pretty much have a set meal when possible so we can compare places with each other- that meal is a fry up because a fry up is one of the best meals on earth!  An ideal fry up for me is 2 fried eggs, 2 bacon, tinned tomatoes, mushrooms, 1 slice of black pudding and 1 chunky sausage or 2 chipolatas, favourite type is the deliciously peppery Cumberland but not been in a cafe yet that lets you choose type of sausage! 2 toast and tea rounds out the meal. Preferably white sliced toast. Not a massive fan of fried bread or hash browns but will eat if there. I don’t go in for all that nonsense most do with fry ups by thinking it’s fixed this fixed that. Just eat what you like! The Avon Lodge Truckstop has over 40 HGV Spaces, 24 hour CCTV and pay...

A Look At The Iveco S-Way

Happy Sunday all. Here’s latest video, about the Iveco S-Way. Note - it’s not quite as in depth as the Volvo and DAF as I didn’t realise it would be there. Hope you enjoy anyway

Vintage Stickers In Store Soon

Been working on a new range of stickers for my store. These will be vintage stickers. Back in the day it was great to collect them on your truck, sort of the trucks story, sadly in these corporate image conscious times it’s a activity that will never return but I’m going to remake them, good for laptops, phones, folders and even trucks. Any ideas and even better high quality images Welcome! luke@lorry-driver.com Keyrings and more in store Monday
