Michael McLaughlins Volvo FH v1

Hullo all. Like most of us these days I spend an inordinate amount of time online, esp since I’m married to my sofa currently so I see a lot of truck pictures. A LOT! Some amazing trucks out there but this one shared on LinkedIn this week blew me away. Freshly restored, beautifully standard. As you know I’m not a fan at all of spot lights and bars, if you are and it’s what makes you happy go for it, but it often feels like I’m the odd one out. So when one like this comes along she almost stands out more for what is not on her. Plus I love a flat top lorry! Probably I think with the black Leyland Interstate on the show scene my favourite classic Truck. The colour is insane!

The owner Michael from Coleraine has been a www.lorry-driver.com follower from the start it turns out so you never know I may see her in the flesh at some point as I’m hoping to do a trip to Ireland in first half of next year. https://www.linkedin.com/in/michael-mclaughlin-aabb991a2

Have a great day all.

#MyTopThree; Vehicles. Number 1

I was young once! (To be fair I was at least 35 here!) So……my all time favourite truck was never really in doubt was it?! My FH16 750 I drove for Virginia is the single best vehicle I’ve ever driven but as a whole the Volvo FH is in my opinion one of the best vehicles ever made, and the final version with this cab, the V3, the ultimate version. The only sensible downside anyone can ever come up with is inside space with the sharply raked screen. It was a struggle at first moving from a Topline but when everything else was just better about the Volvo, not least an extra 310 horses under my right foot!.  When Virginia gave me the 750 I thought I’d better make the most of it, of having the most powerful truck on the road as Scania had only lost the title a year or two previously so as everyone said (including me) they’d soon bring out a 750 killer. Well, that took a while. Only now have they released the 770S, 9 years after this truck hit the road and 6 years after I stopped driving i...

If you have any of you that you had taken with me and Bertie please send them so I can share. lorrydriverluke@live.com. I met a certain someone at the show as you can see in the pic, I think Bertie's new name plate sums the situation up! Anyhow, have a little bonus video. Of me on a milk round with my Dad. Looking To The Future……..

So, here goes then! I’m a LinkedIn novice, having spent a lifetime as a driver! Background- after a serious car accident in 2020 that very nearly killed me I started thinking about the future, as you do when you came so close to not having one! Driving was my dream job, I’ve driven so many things from minibuses and coaches to trucks & vans and even plant machiny like articulated dumper trucks & diggers in a career that crossed 20+ countries in Europe from Portugal to Hungary to Norway to Finland to Ireland and everywhere in between so many times over a near 25 year career.. I had the time of my life, it was amazing, but…… I’ve done all I dreamed of. My CV looks ridiculous because I wanted to experience everything, which I did. But this has left me wondering what’s next? Do I simply repeat everything over the next 20 years. Which would be easy but not fulfilling or do I strike out on a new path? I’m choosing the latter.   I’m incredibly experienced as a driver but obvio...
