Hope everyone had a good weekend, we did here in the sun. Another post sharing pictures from the past. I have had literally dozens of jobs in my near quarter of a century Driving but one I was at for nearly nine years which says it all, Virginia of course. Partly the reason I loved it was the variety. I could be tipping hazardous goods in Budapest one trip, butcher shops in Naples another followed by car parts to Swindon or concrete slabs to the Isle of White! I loved it all, I need variety without it I lose all interest.

Sadly as you know I and they made a mistake taking the office job they offered to set up UK depot. We didn’t fit, not least because I couldn’t get any enthusiasm going in me. Always regretted that it ended badly as they are a great company but hopefully now the relationship is improving. Has been very enjoyable to see them thriving as they have. And before anyone asks yes I’d go back but I’m in a different point of my life and being away permanently isn’t for me anymore.

UPDATE- Lady Michelle is still going strong and working hard. Someone questioned me as to why they had not ’traded her in yet’ well maybe because she’s a 750 special edition for companies birthday! Maybe that. One of best aspects of Virginia is it’s a very Truck family so she won’t her going anywhere and good to see still cared for.

I was young once! (To be fair I was at least 35 here!) So……my all time favourite truck was never really in doubt was it?! My FH16 750 I drove for Virginia is the single best vehicle I’ve ever driven but as a whole the Volvo FH is in my opinion one of the best vehicles ever made, and the final version with this cab, the V3, the ultimate version. The only sensible downside anyone can ever come up with is inside space with the sharply raked screen. It was a struggle at first moving from a Topline but when everything else was just better about the Volvo, not least an extra 310 horses under my right foot!.  When Virginia gave me the 750 I thought I’d better make the most of it, of having the most powerful truck on the road as Scania had only lost the title a year or two previously so as everyone said (including me) they’d soon bring out a 750 killer. #ThrowbackThursday; Where It All Began….

 #ThrowbackThursday - So if you’ve followed me for long you will already know I’ve had a rather ridiculous career working for every man and his dog, driving everything from vans to rigids to artics to drawbars to buses and coaches. I’m really proud of my bonkers career, it’s been absolutely amazing! But, my driving career didn’t start on the road, it started on a landfill, in a Moxy! For pretty my whole childhood Dad was a mechanic who drove on the side. I used to spend lots of time with him, going away in lorries or spending the weekend with him in the workshop. One job he had was for a local plant hire company and this was one of the best as back in those days when no one really cared much about H&S, I got to drive and play with machines in the yard. It got to point where I could lift engines and axles etc with pinpoint precision with the mini digger, helping Pops. Can’t dig a hole to save my life tho!
