Welcome New Drivers

In what surprise non drivers becoming a lorry driver has always been notoriously hard to get into. I myself was driving busses and coaches all over Europe and still struggling to get a job driving a truck. Took me 3 years. Thankfully this does seem to be improving.

If you’ve followed me any length of time you’ll know that I’m a big supporter of new drivers, which can be funny when I put the point of view of the young driver on bitchy Facebook posts and I get mistaken for a young driver, I’m clearly a very youthful looking man. The attitude of the rest of the industry can be very negative, people seemingly don’t consider how their words might affect people. We were all new once. Instead of moaning and bitching about young drivers making mistakes and not knowing things be a grown up and share some of your knowledge, simple. Basically don’t be a twat. Driving a Twin Splitter once decades ago doesn’t make you better than others who’ve always used automatics. Being able to throw a sheet over stuff and tie it down doesn’t make you better than drivers who’ve never used a flat. The skills remain, they are just different so stop shitting on the young. More on this subject in August edition of Truck & Driver Magazine.

Anyhow to get to the point as a way of saying congratulations and welcome to our industry I’ve made up this welcome pack for new drivers at better than half the price of buying individually. So if you’ve passed your test within the last 6 months this is for you. I’ll require proof of test date before sending.

Contains - large fold over clipboard with conversion table, pen, digicard slot and laminated basic drivers hours sheet, mid year July ‘22 - July ‘23 diary, new driver plate and a www.lorry-driver.com sticker.

Have a great weekend everyone.

#ThrowbackThursday: Plain & Pretty

#ThrowbackThursday: At Whites Transport Services Ltd I was mostly freelance and jumping from truck to truck covering holidays but I did have an allocated truck for a while. In a fleet that was full of high power flagships people are often surprised that this was my favourite. I just love how clean it looks. Only a 500 but enjoyable to drive too. Went all over in her, Italy, Germany, Spain, Austria etc. very enjoyable job that, pulling out of Dunbia Llanybydder near home, formerly Oriel Jones, and a lot of my childhood was spent in Oriel Jones lorries as my Dad worked for them.  The Best Driver CPCs In The World
